Heavy rare silver anklet from Mauretania 01.09.902

Khal-khal, are the impressive and often very heavy anklets or "chevillières"  traditionally worn by Maure less often by Tuareg women. In old times reserved for the noble casts, nowadays accessible to all rich families. For those who could not afford silver, aluminum was made into jewelry, particularly since a khal-khal would require  a lot of silver for its elaboration. Jewelry makes up the woman's movable wealth, as it is easily transported from place to place in the nomadic way of life.
