Konso funeral pole 29.03.026

The Konso are an ethnic group of Southern Ethiopia. Ethiopia is not particularly well-known for its production of sculptures. But the waga, the wooden poles of the Konso, are one of the few exceptions. The funeral posts of the Konso are celebrating the memories of the bravest warriors and hunters and their wives. The sexual attributes are accentuated for both male and female statues.

The only reference of similar Konso pole on an auction was fin Tribal ArtAuction 69 on 1 June 2012 by Galery Zematek. Theit pole was estimated between 10'000 and 20'000 €.
