Lobi blacksmiths were called Phuperdara, the man of the black iron. He haa special power, a link to a supernatural power, called thil, wich allowed him to negotiate between the thila, the spirits of nature and men. Among the ritual objects he made the snake plays an important role. A snake was always connected to a thil.
