Strand, necklace, of 94 beautiful chevron beads 05.01.1509

Very old necklace in glass paste made of 29 beads from Venice at the end of the XIXth century. Known as chevron or rosetta beads, invented by a Venetian master glassmaker in the 16th century, they were highly prized for the complexity of their manufacture. These pearls have a 12-pointed star-shaped cross-section, and are usually made up of several layers around a central axis. In Africa, these pearls had a magical value due to the 12 branches of the star, an allusion to the 12 signs of the zodiac. The largest pearls were reserved for kings and notables, could be part of a wedding dowry and were found in tombs. Today, these highly sought-after pearls.
