A traditional cylinder-shaped cuff bracelet from Siwa Oasis with a sun and star motif and Berber iconography. It is riveted with three large silver studs and has two sidebar, also riveted with silver studs. Van Roode (2017, 138) comments that the sun-burst motif is a common motif among the Berber peoples of North Africa, and that it often is misread as a flower motif. Silver stamp and silversmith's signature.

This adire oniko (means tied resist) has been bought mid 1970 th ion a market in Benin or Nigeria. Beans, grains or small stones are inserted in the ties to fill them out and then tied with a raphia or cotton thread. The area that is bound will not be dyed.

An Adire alabere stitch resist combined with tie dye from Nigeria. A unique and rare fabric, collected around 1978 in Nigeria. A similar iem is found in the Brooklyn Museum under ACCESSION NUMBER 1990.132.9

Over-sized men's clothing equates to importance. In northern Nigeria, large silk embroidered robes that are worn, or given to subordinates, are indicative of high status. The triangular knife pattern and the calligraphic spiral rosette may have an underlying protective symbolism that has been overlaid with commercial trade value.

This cotton blanket was collectet in 1978 in Niger. Both Fulani (Peulh) and Songhai use this type of blanket. Typically this size and weight of cloth served multiple purposes as blankets and household furnishings. It has been washed and some of the the indigo blue has rubbed off. /see pictures)

Fulani weavers make theses woollen blankets that are worn in the cold season — woven of white sheep wool for the weft and cotton for the warp on a horizontal strip loom. A lovely, cream-colored blanket in good condition for its age (around 1960).

The box is made out of bark. The upper part consists in a wooden lid, Similar boxes are found as "Dan reliquary box " in Ivory Coast. The precise orgin of the present box is not known.

This huge and richly decorated bowl from the Fulani tribe is in perfect condition, without any cracks. Its rich pyrogravure and its warm patina makes it an exceptional, highly decorative piece.

This exceptionally huge and richly decorated bowl from the Fulani tribe has unfortunately been broken and repaired in a non-traditional manner (glued). Nevertheless, the cracks are hardly visible, and the calabash conserves a highly decorative value. Ideally, it deserves a traditional repair. We are interested in any contact, an elderly Fulani woman or men, who still has the knowledge repairing calabashes.

This calabash has a fine and traditional repair. It differs from most other regional calabashes by its warm yellowish colour. Possible origin: Northern Benin to be confirmed. Despite its repair it doesn't seems to have been used over a long period.
