This is old brass pipe head, due to its age and long use it has a hole in the furnace. The wooden stem on the picture is lost. While Musée d'Ethnographie de Neucâtel (MEN) attributes a similar article to the Ashanti tribe in Ghana and some other sources link them to the Mossi in Burkina Faso, The existing pipe has been collected in Northern Cameroon

Tobacco pipe from Rwanda made of earthenware with a slender funnel-shaped bowl at the bottom ending in a sharp point. Undecorated black baked pottery, a small chip on the edge of the furnace (see picture). The Indende, or long pipe is used by wealthy people, while the round pipe is for ordinary people.

Hash pipe in silver with baluster shaped bowl with cylindrical filtrand standing on a straight stem and placed on a horizontal stem. Entirely encased in silver plate that is driven with stylized leaf motifs standing around the bowl, the stem base and the stem twisted. Silver plate with rosette-shaped smoke outlet. A similar piece is found in the Amsterdam pipe Museum under APM 23.587.

This is a lovely old worked and painted leather bag, worn by the Tuareg and Fulani of Muritania. These bags contain normally tobacco, a pipe and tweezers and needles to remove thorns, they are also used as wallets. Within the Tuareg they are usually the women who tanned and decorated the skin.

The Tuareg "ǝlbayt" snuffbox is made by leatherworkers in a purely Mauritanian style.The snuffbox has four pockets with flaps. These "wargāt" leaves bear the names of the various objects that are stored in the snuffbox, it closes with a small leather cord.

No literature reference could be found for this object collected around 1983 in Chad. Most probably they are earrings worn by Teda - Toubou- women who live in the Tibesti mountains north of Chad, around the borders of Libya and Niger Maybe also by other nomadic tribes such as the Bororo. The earrings can also be worn as bracelet.

This type of fingering generally attributed to the Dogon (Mali) but you find similar models among other tribes in Mali, and surrounding countries. Blandin (1988) p. 37 suggests that the motif represent water lily leaves that exist in the ponds of the region.

These kind o rings are found all over the interior delta of river Niger, from the Dogon in the North to the FraFra in the South. The present ring is a beautiful example of these rings, its polished and cleaned, ready to wear.

These cache-sexes, called Bainsouie are formed by a brass plate with copper decorations. Long fine iron chains are attached to this plate. The waistband is formed by red and blue glass beads. If traditionally worn on a hip belt, they can also be worn as necklace. See photo in Vanishing Africa by Angela Fisher (page 138)

This type of bracelet could not be clearly identified. They have been collected in northern Cameroon 1983/84. The bracelet can be polished, which gives them a beautiful look.

Called amulet or charm by Westerners, the term Tsherot in Tamajaq means "a paper with message", those not the box is important but the message its contains. The text written by an imam is either a coranic verse or some magic signs to protect the bearer from various dangers. The present amulet box is made of a brass front plate and a back iron sheet.

This long hanging pectoral pendant ihasbeen acquired in Eritrea in 1991. Rashaïda and Nubiean women were these pectoral hangigs. It comprises flat, engraved silver plates,nnd numerous dangles and bells.There is a small loop at the top to allow suspension.
