Silver crescent wedding necklaces such as this were traditionally worn long ago, and are associated with the rural areas around Harar, Somalia and Yemen. In fair condition, some bells may have been lost and replaced (see pict.)

This a rare and large Ring from the Sidamo Tribal area of Southern Ethiopia. This ring was worn by male members of the tribe, either as a ring or used as a pendant.

These thin disks have holes punched in pairs at the four cardinal points. These discs could have been used as shield bosses. Shield boss is the center piece of round shields used by the Ethiopian warriors. Another use of these discs could be a decoration of of horse trappings. Discs such as these were also used as decorative pieces for bead jewelry among the Oromo and Arussi.

This large and beautiful Yemeni Hirz prayer cylinder, also called Q'tubis, is a cylinder shaped pendant with extrordinary silver work. The pendant is in excellent condition. The Koranic text was removed as they are specific to the owner of the box. This amulet box is one of finest in our collection.

These bracelets were worn by the Anuak, Shilluk, and Nuer from Sudan , sometimes at the upper arm. This item has beautiful creamy colored patina with some cracks. Ivory is the material of choice for many of the peoples within Sudan. Collected during my stays in Southern Soudan in the 1970'ties.

This is a superb antique 19th Century ivory bracelet or upper arm bracelet from the Nuer tribe in Southern Sudan, collected during my extensive travel in South Sudan in 1973/4. Ivory is the material of choice for many of the peoples, Anuak, Shilluk, Nuer , etc. within Sudan. Its size makes it possible to wear ay exclusive jewelry, but it also makes an attractive piece of a collection or on a stand as valuable design item. It is in perfect condition, with small cracks and the smooth patina.
