The "akam" (sing.) or "akman" (plural) went from one side of the head to the other beneath the chin. It was worn throughout Northern Oman. The piece consists of two decorated triangular ends with a tear -drop shaped hook to attach them to the head cloth. They are made on a triangular base of rings, soldered together
For the present akman the chains are missing.

The Tuareg use a lock (tanast) and key (asrou) to secure their large leather bags containing personal possessions whilst travelling in the desert regions. They employ an elaborate aesthetic when fashioning their inventive locks and keys. Sometimes more complex mechanisms need 2 to 4 keys to be used in sequence in order to gain access. They are made by artisans specialising in this craft using silver, metal, copper, brass or aluminium.

This bracelet or anklet is of a type of work known as kamardani, but this example is of high quality. The style of chain is loop in loop with a hooked closure. The effect of the flexible, loop-in-loop chain is that its movement imitates that of a snake, which has associations in Hinduism with fertility and creation.
