Made of soft wood and partly covered in hide with straps attached. There is a separate lid also made of hide. The surface of the object is decorated with burnt markings. The Turkana excel in wood and leatherwork. The beautiful and attractively decorated wood vessels are generally made out of Ekware wood (Gardenia volkensi) and Ekuruchanait (Delonix alata).Similar objects MEG: ETHAF 045534 - 36

This small old brass has nicely decorated pipe head, a wooden centrepiece and a brass mouthpiece. While Musée d'Ethnographie de Neucâtel (MEN) attributes a similar article to the Ashanti tribe in Ghana and some other sources link them to the Mossi in Burkina Faso, The existing pipe has been collected in Northern Cameroon.

An old Crescent pendant necklace. The pendant is crescent-shaped and finely decorated with applique and granulation. There are eight sets of dangles that make a jingling noise as the wearer moves.

A fine hand woven cloth from Ghana, with grey, yellow and red strips. A traditional, very fine weaving technique from the Ashanti region in Ghana makes this piece an extraordinary cloth. Bought in Ghan in 2017.

These thin disks have holes punched in pairs at the four cardinal points. These discs could have been used as shield bosses. Shield boss is the center piece of round shields used by the Ethiopian warriors. Another use of these discs could be a decoration of of horse trappings. Discs such as these were also used as decorative pieces for bead jewelry among the Oromo and Arussi.

Tobacco pipe Dinka (Sudan) 21.01.1587

SThe pipe is composed of a dark wood pipe head and stem. The furnace is lined with metal inside the fireplace. It is decorated with two horizontal lines. The furnace is extended by protrusions on three sides. The two lateral sides of rectangular shapes, in their centre, is inserted a brass disc. The brass mouthpiece is linked to the furnace by a wooden centrepiece. Similar pieces are in MEG (Musée d'Ethnographie Genève) Inv. No. ETHAF 041485 and the MEN (Neuchàtel).The pipe head has rest of long tobacco use.
