This deep hand made pottery dish is from the Swat valley region of Pakistan. It has stylized brown and blue-green glazed decorations to the glazed top. The underside is unglazed. 2-3 defects on the glaze, see picture.

We have this earring as a pair (only one is shown on the picture). No literature reference could be found for this object collected around 1983 in Chad. Most probably they are earrings worn by Teda - Toubou- women who live in the Tibet mountains north of Chad, around the borders of Libya and Niger Maybe also by other nomadic tribes such as the Bororo. The earrings can also be worn as bracelet.

This is a fine twisted silver torque with a central medallion. It is thought that this type of torque was originally made in the Swat Valley in North Pakistan and brought westwards to the Kafirs in Afghanistan. Our pieces have been collected in the Swat valley.

This choker is of a type of work known as kamardani, but this example is of high quality. The style of chain is loop in loop with a hooked closure. The effect of the flexible, loop-in-loop chain is that its movement imitates that of a snake, which has associations in Hinduism with fertility and creation.
