Five diamond shaped silver plates, mounted on a leather plate. Beautiful piece of original tuareg jewelry. An outstanding piece of original tuareg jewelry worn by Tuareg women.Produced by the Kel Ahaggart in Algeria and the Kel Iullemeden and Kel Attaram in Mali. The local name khumeysa is derived from khamsa which means five in Arabic. Five is a sacred number: the five fingers of Fatima, the five pillars of Islam, the 5 sacred persons in Islam (Mahomet, Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Hussaïn)

Called amulet or charm by Westerners, the term Tsherot in Tamajaq means "a paper with message", those not the box is important but the message it contains. The text written by an imam is either a coranic verse or magic signs to protect the bearer from various dangers. The present amulet box ian atique piece, of which one of the upper front plate is missing, offering an inside view.

Typical medium size Yemen silver amulet also called q'tub or what we would call a prayer cylinder. Smooth surfaced cylinder with dainty "dangles" hang from 4 loops on the bottom edge of the cylinder. The cylinder is completly closed.

This is another beautiful silver lingam box from Karnataka with a nice silver chain, silver beads and 2 square pendants. Such lingam caskets are worn by followers of the Virashaiva sect (those who follow Shiva) in the Karnataka region of Southern India. Men may wear them on the left arm and Lingayat Jangam priests on the top of the head under a cloth cap.

A beautiful strand of 16 millefiori beads. 15 beads are identical with a yellow-brown- white design and only a few end chips. On smaller bead is of different shape and design. The strand is in its original condition as it was acquired in the 1970s in West Africa.

An African sickle throwing knife called "Sengese" from Northern Cameroon. This type of weapon was used in Cameroon as well as in Nigeria. This knife has a heavy forged blade with carved decoration and has its original tribal patina. The handle is covered with a raphia rope.

Such rings are worn by Fulani and Tuareg as hair or finger rings, as well as pendants. Their small diameter indicates that they were mostly worn as pendent, according to Brunner 2011 specialy by Azawagh women in the Aïr mountains.

The Akam (sing.) or Akman (plural) went from one side of the head to the other beneath the chin. It was worn throughout Northern Oman. The piece consists of two decorated triangular ends with a tear -drop shaped hook to attach them to the head cloth. They are made on a triangular base of rings, soldered together. The whole piece, the 2 triangular ends and the 6 chains linking them together is called Akam slsila, meaning "akam" with chains.

A lovely beaded hat from Central Asia. Probably Kuchi or Turkmen from Afghanistan. Glass beads, metal coins and dangles a decorate the circumference.

This necklace is of a type of work known as kamardani, but this example is of high quality. The style of chain is loop in loop with a hooked closure. The effect of the flexible, loop-in-loop chain is that its movement imitates that of a snake, which has associations in Hinduism with fertility and creation.
