Called amulet or charm by Westerners, the term Tsherot in Tamajaq means "a paper with message", those not the box is important but the message it contains. The text written by an imam is either a coranic verse or magic signs to protect the bearer from various dangers. The present amulet box is made of a front brass plate, with a diamond center piece, and a back iron sheet. It is mounted on its original leather strung.

At least one pair of these heavy anklets form part of the dowry of the Maure women. The anklet is formed by a central chiselled central plate, two bows leading to 2 lateral plates and the ending round knobs. The decoration of the 2 lateral plates is normally different for each plate. The ones in silver form also as monetary reserve and can be traded in times of hardship. They are worn by pairs, the central plate to the outer side of the leg.

This unique ring in the shape of a building is primarily produced by blacksmiths in Tahoua and Agadez and worn by Azawagh, Haoussa and Bororo women and men. Anne van Cutsen presents a similar ring from Ethiopia. The Tuareg origin seems most probable, also due to the place the ring was collected (N'Djamena). Anne van Cutsem (Baques ethniques 2000) reproduces on page 40 a very similar ring apparently from Ethiopia!

The finely chiseled motifs serve both aesthetic and protective function. tThe front plate has small green and red inlays and shows sign of long use. Beautiful cross of Iferouane, Teneghelt ta n Ferwan of either the Kel Azawagh, Deneg, Iwellemmeden or Ewey. The cross of Iferouane is considered by the Tuareg as an alternative version of the cross of Agadez. These crosses are worn either as pendent or as ear ring. The present cross comes without cord.
