Such rigid Hansli silver torque,are worn among many groups from Rajastan to Kashmir and Bengal. Leurquin mentions that such heavy necklaces are worn by girls near puberty to show that they will soon be of marriageable age. Janata shows similar torques imported to Afghanistan from Punjab and/or Sind

This is a fine and light neck ring from the Golden Triangle. The ring opens with a lock, which needs some small repairs. Lovely repouussé design.

This tortque ,vadlo,is part of an important part of bride's dowry among the Vaishnavite and Rabari Hindu, Megal, Bhil and Mutra Muslims of Gujarat. It can be opened to wear it easily (see picure).

This is a fine twisted silver torque with a central medallion. It is thought that this type of torque was originally made in the Swat Valley in North Pakistan and brought westwards to the Kafirs in Afghanistan. Our pieces have been collected in the Swat valley

This adire oniko (means tied resist) has been bought mid 1970 th ion a market in Benin or Nigeria. Beans, grains or small stones are inserted in the ties to fill them out and then tied with a raphia or cotton thread. The area that is bound will not be dyed.

An Adire alabere stitch resist combined with tie dye from Nigeria. A unique and rare fabric, collected around 1978 in Nigeria. A similar iem is found in the Brooklyn Museum under ACCESSION NUMBER 1990.132.9

This is a vintage Kuchi bedspread from Afghanistan. It features hand embroidery and mirrors. An amazing patchwork of embroidered cotton pieces in an array of colours and designs. Beautiful, one of a kind textile art. The fabric is in perfet condition given its age. One of our best pieces in our textile collection.
