A turned spice box in a dark red colour, and natural signs of long use. The decorations are painted in a black, some missing parts. The lid is partially broken (see picture). These boxes were used for spices sugar, etc. Similar boxes are used in the Northern Frontier district of Pakistan, Pakistani-Afghan border areas and Punjab.

Southern Sudan probably Nuer woman's pipe. The pipe head is made out of black clay. The stem has been made from a cut iron tube, probably there was a wooden mouthpiece. Collected in 1975/6 in the Nuer area.Contains still rest of tobacco.

This is a lovely old worked and painted leather bag, worn by the Tuareg and Fulani of Muritania. These bags contain normally tobacco, a pipe and tweezers and needles to remove thorns, they are also used as wallets. Within the Tuareg they are usually the women who tanned and decorated the skin. some dark spots on the inner side, see pictures.
