This is a superb antique 19th Century ivory bracelet or upper arm bracelet from the Nuer tribe in Southern Sudan, collected during my extensive travel in South Sudan in 1973/4. Ivory is the material of choice for many of the peoples, Anuak, Shilluk, Nuer , etc. within Sudan. Its size makes it possible to wear ay exclusive jewelry, but it also makes an attractive piece of a collection or on a stand as valuable design item. It is in perfect condition, with small cracks and the smooth patina.
