Churning-rod holders or Ghurras, sometimes also called Neti are nicely sculpted objects used to keep the churning-stick upright. All Ghurras are made of three distinctive elements: a disciform end which may be open or closed which holds the churning stick. The more the ghurra has been used the more this ring shows signs of use. The second element can be in various shape can bear various symbolic pattern, but terminates typically with a ring, a hook or an eye to attach the ghurra to a post or any other fixed attach. The rod shaped element itself joins the two previous elements. One can class the ghurras in two distinct styles: the figurative style, which refers mainly to 3 different themes (the life on the farm, anthropomorphic figures and the hand, and the abstract or geometric form. The information on this subject relies on the book Divine Support by Paul de Smedt, published by Book Faith India 2000.
